School of Engineering and Applied Science Student Activities Award
Sandhya Sethuraman SEAS’25 is a graduating senior studying chemical engineering, with minors in computer science and applied math. She is being recognized for her engagement with the broader community and commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment on campus.
As president of the Columbia chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Sethuraman raised funds to send a record number of students to conferences, many of whom had never had the opportunity to present research. She has coordinated professional development events and conducted peer advising sessions, and serves as a peer ambassador for the Chemical Engineering department.
Outside the department, Sethuraman has taught classes through Girls Who Code, tutored through the One-to-One program, and is currently volunteering at The Roger Lehecka Double Discovery Center, providing support to local high school students navigating the college application process.
Thank you to my parents, for their unwavering encouragement and support; to my professors, and especially my adviser, Prof. McNeill, for making undergraduate research a thoroughly joyful endeavor; and to my friends, who make every day brighter! I am so lucky to be part of such a vibrant community, and wouldn't be here without you.
