Indelible Mark
Hailing from Overland Park, Kansas, Shaurir Ramanujan CC’25 is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in financial economics and sustainable development and is a junior inductee of Phi Beta Kappa. Ramanujan has conducted interdisciplinary research across Columbia’s Law School, Climate School and Business School. As a Climate Knowledge Initiative fellow, he explored the policy, finance and technology needed to accelerate the energy transition. With a personal and professional interest in the intersection of climate, law and finance, he has worked at multinational law firms and financial institutions on matters related to corporate governance and sustainable investing. During his time at Columbia, Ramanujan served as the co-editor-in-chief of the Columbia Undergraduate Law Review, collaborated with the Hindu Students Organization and Religious Life to create interfaith prayer spaces and sang as a bass in Columbia Sur. He was also a teaching assistant for “Principles of Economics” and a board member of Columbia’s oldest student-run hedge fund. Beyond campus, Ramanujan contributed to citywide efforts to design a K–12 financial education strategy and co-founded Money Talks — a United Nations-recognized initiative dedicated to promoting financial literacy among high schoolers in New York City. He was recognized as a Millennium fellow and a Rhodes Scholarship finalist for his work in social impact. The son of immigrants from India, Ramanujan thanks his parents, grandparents and sister for instilling in him the values of hard work, service and community. He hopes to attend law school in order to advance public–private partnerships in sustainable development.
I am deeply grateful to the mentors, friends and professors who have made my time at Columbia truly memorable. Thank you to the faculty who generously guided me, and to my students who have allowed me to play a small part in their educational journeys. Above all, I am most thankful to my family, whose love and support have been instrumental in shaping the person I am today.
