Kyle Murray CC’25 is a senior double-majoring in biology and art history. He is recognized for his wide-ranging involvement across Columbia’s academic and creative communities. In the sciences, Murray works as a teaching assistant for introductory biology and researches genetically engineered bacteria as cancer therapies in the Danino Lab. He also supports first-year students in navigating campus life through the Columbia Mentoring Initiative. Outside the classroom, Murray’s creative interests span the FM airwaves and backstage: He hosts WKCR’s Eastern Bloc Party, a weekly show broadcasting Soviet and post-Soviet music, and served as lead sound designer for The Varsity Show, Columbia’s oldest performing arts tradition. In 2023, Murray was editor-in-chief of Bwog, where he guided reporting and had a blast authoring more than 150 articles, from breaking news to oddball essays. Murray believes that Columbia is best experienced by doing a little bit of everything — and giving each part your full attention and heart.
I want to express my gratitude to everyone who supported me during my years at Columbia, whether for a short moment or throughout it all — to the faculty who changed how I observe the world and think, to the mentors who offered their earnest guidance, to acquaintances and their passing kindness, and, most of all, to my family and friends for so much love. I carry it with me, always. :-)
