Community Building
Neha Mani CC’25 is a graduating senior studying biochemistry and linguistics. As a Laidlaw and Goldwater Scholar, she has been fortunate to explore her interests in scientific research and leadership, and to connect these pursuits with broader efforts in community building and education.
Mani served as president of the National Undergraduate Consortium for Science Journalism. She helped lead the group’s annual conference, which brought together professionals in science communication to engage in dialogue with undergraduates and offer mentorship to students aspiring to enter the field. She also founded and co-led Modulus Research Education Club, which partners with schools to make research more accessible through workshops and science-focused events like hackathons.
Alongside community engagement, Mani conducts research in the Mancia Lab, where she studies membrane proteins involved in Wnt signaling using cryo-electron microscopy. After graduation, Mani will pursue an MD-PhD, where she hopes to continue learning, mentoring and contributing to inclusive scientific communities.
I'm exceedingly grateful for this nomination — an honor I share with my family, mentors, peers and the Columbia community, whose support has made all the difference. Some of the closest friendships I’ve made here have grown from collaborating on initiatives that bring our campus and the surrounding community closer together. Thank you for the encouragement, the camaraderie and the shared passion that have made my time here so meaningful.
