Senior Marshal
Ahmed Azhar Mahmud SEAS’25 is being recognized for his dedication to education, community-building and service to the Columbia community. During his time at Columbia Engineering, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to mentorship, inclusion and operational excellence. As a teaching assistant for a computer science course and a student leader for SHAPE, Mahmud supported students through challenging concepts with clarity and empathy. In his role as an operations assistant with Columbia Housing and Lerner Hall Operations, he played a key part in managing logistical coordination and supporting residential life, helping to create a welcoming and efficient experience for thousands of students. Mahmud has also served as a leader in the Muslim Student Association and the Pakistani Students Association, where he revitalized community engagement through meaningful events and interfaith initiatives. His research at the Mailman School of Public Health explored the intersection of climate change and migration, reflecting his passion for addressing global challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration. Across all his roles, Mahmud has exemplified a spirit of compassion, leadership and purpose.
