Kate Lampo SEAS’25 is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering from Broomfield, Colorado. As a long-time leader in the Columbia Space Initiative (CSI), Lampo has developed astronaut tools for testing at NASA, delivered STEM lessons to more than 1,500 NYC middle schoolers, hosted numerous high-profile speaker events, and is currently building Columbia’s first satellites. As CSI’s Co-President, she oversaw the club’s 13 technical projects, fostered community, and provided professional opportunities for its more than 250 members. Last fall, Lampo also co-created Columbia’s new minor in aerospace engineering. Outside of CSI, she conducts research in Columbia’s ROAM Lab, where she’s currently working on a robotic hand for Astrobee, the free-flying robot on the International Space Station. Lampo also enjoys giving campus tours and has been a teaching assistant for two years. She is a Marshall Scholar and Aviation Week 20 Twenties Laureate; after graduation, Lampo will be continuing her studies in space robotics at the University of Oxford.
Perpetual gratitude to Prof. Mike and the many other mentors at Columbia that have fostered my love of space and engineering. To Will, Matt and the CSI team, thank you for inspiring me as leaders, as students and as people. To my roommates and close friends, thank you for making New York home for four years. To my family, thank you for backing every pursuit I choose to put time into; I appreciate you immensely.
