Mariah House SEAS’25 is being recognized for her work with Columbia University Barbell Club where she served on the board for most of her undergraduate career. Under her leadership, the club secured two Ivy League Cup victories and more than doubled its membership. House dedicated her efforts to creating an equitable space within the club for women and LGBTQ+ communities, while also using her coaching certifications to engage members of all experience levels. She believes that this focus on inclusion is what made the club successful, both on and off the competition platform. House will graduate this May with a degree in chemical engineering and political science, and is excited to continue coaching wherever her next chapter takes her.
Weightlifting saved my life and it has been such a blessing to share this sport with this school. Thank you to my family, friends and especially my coaches, Rachel and Able, for creating such a welcoming community that inspired me to develop one of my own here at Columbia. Lifting is for everybody!
