School of Engineering and Applied Science Scholar Athlete Award
Andrew Fouty SEAS’25 is an Earth and environmental engineering major and a proud member of Columbia’s Men’s Swimming and Diving team. Fouty is being recognized for his dedication to his studies and his commitment to his team. He was the first walk-on in program history to make Columbia’s conference team, and he is a member of the varsity record holding 200 medley relay. As team captain, Fouty helped younger members of the team adjust to the difficulties of balancing school and swimming. In the classroom, he has enjoyed learning how to apply fundamental science to relevant environmental issues. Fouty works in the Yip Lab on desalination research and this fall he will be pursuing a Ph.D. in environmental engineering Fall 2025.
I am grateful for my time at Columbia. I feel lucky to have amazing teammates and friends that brighten my day, classmates that make every course more engaging, professors who help me grow intellectually and coaches that push me to be the best version of myself. I am thankful for all of these people, and I am thankful most of all for my parents, whose love and support keep me going.
