Award Recognition

Charles H. Bjorkwall Prize
Anand Chitnis CC’25 is recognized for his work on the Columbia College Student Council as the VP for Campus Life. Stepping into the role in 2023, Chitnis worked to bring engaging events to the Columbia College student body. He brought new traditions to the undergraduate experience, such as clubCCSC, Columbia on Ice, and Drag Bingo. In difficult times, Chitnis has remained steadfast in his commitment to the student community, organizing daily food distributions when campus closures rendered dining halls inaccessible and fighting for students' seats at the table in University governing processes. He approached his role with the understanding that community joy is one of the most vital components of community resistance. Chitnis also worked in Undergraduate Admissions, to give prospective students a window into the vibrant Columbia community, acted and directed in Latenite Theatre's semesterly sketch comedy anthologies, and studied human rights, race and ethnicity studies, and environmental justice.
To my friends who keep me steady, my family who ensure I am always loved, and the Columbia community that trusted me and my wildest aspirations: Thank you. I'd also like to recognize the staff at Undergraduate Student Life — without their tireless work and compassion, the undergraduate experience wouldn't exist. Lastly, I'd like to thank the fearless activists and leaders who inspire my joyous resistance. History will look kindly upon those who resist tyranny.
