Senior Marshal
Jessica Bolar SEAS’25 is graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in biotechnology and product development. She is recognized for her leadership, mentorship and dedication to fostering an inclusive engineering community. As a mission lead in the Columbia Space Initiative, Bolar guided a NASA Micro-G NEXT challenge national finalist team in designing and developing a lunar sampling device, which will be tested in the Johnson Space Center’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory this summer. In this role, Bolar assembled an interdisciplinary team of students, primarily composed of women in STEM, who were passionate about engaging with the full product development cycle, while also fostering their skill growth and professional development through technical workshops and mentorship. Beyond her technical work, Bolar has been deeply committed to mentorship and creating an inclusive community throughout her college experience. As an Orientation leader for three years through Undergraduate Student Life, she has welcomed and guided more than 65 incoming students, helping them navigate the transition to college and New York City with warmth and support. She strives to create spaces where others feel comfortable, supported and encouraged to find their place.
I am deeply grateful to my parents for their support over the past four years. To my peer, roommate, and dear friend, Serena Landsman SEAS’25, I’m grateful for our friendship and your constant support. And to my oldest friends at Columbia, Casandra Martinez SEAS’25 and Claudio Solano SEAS’25 — thank you for getting me through the toughest moments of engineering and celebrating every milestone along the way. I have cherished having you both on this journey with me.
