Emerging Leader
Julie Aleiner SEAS’26 is a third-year Mechanical Engineering student,who is being recognized for her leadership in expanding hands-on opportunities in sustainable engineering. As co-president of Columbia’s Engineers Without Borders (CU-EWB), she co-leads the Obodan Preschool Project in Ghana and has previously served as treasurer and a travel team member for the Uganda solar grid project. Aleiner is also the founder and president of the Columbia University Sustainable Energy Club (CUSE), that creates opportunities for students to gain practical skills and connect with the clean energy industry. Beyond her sustainability efforts, Aleiner conducts research in the Vukelic Group, has worked as a teaching assistant in the Mathematics department, and has helped new students acclimate to Columbia as both a TVC and Explore NYC Orientation leader.
I am honored to receive this award and immensely grateful for my friends, family and the engineering community, whose passion, dedication and support inspire me daily. Thank you to my friends for always keeping me laughing and grounded and my family for believing in me. And a special shoutout to the members of CUSE: Thank you for helping me build this dream into a reality. I'm so excited to watch us grow!
