Civic Responsibility
Fatima Ahmad CC’25 is a senior majoring in Middle Eastern and South Asian studies with a concentration in education. This past summer, she served as an adviser to the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations, attending meetings and writing reports for Security Council meetings and First Committee Affairs of the General Assembly. Previously, Ahmad has worked at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, specializing in cases relating to hate crimes. She has also held positions with Senate Majority Leader Chuck E. Schumer (D-NY), the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York and the Council on American-Islamic Relations. On campus, Ahmad has served as managing editor for the Columbia Journal of Asia, has worked as a research assistant for Dr. Isabel Huacuja Alonso, and is a resident advisor on East Campus. Ahmad is a Saltzman, Laidlaw and Institute of Global Politics Scholar. She is also a recipient of the FLAS Fellowship for the study of Urdu.
I’d like to note my thanks to my parents, Mushtaq Ahmad and Farhad Ahmad, and my siblings, Maryam Ahmad and Ali Ahmad. I am no one without family and I am thankful to have found a home at Columbia, with friends and professors, Tehreem Qureshi CC’25, Iman Shah SEAS’24 and Isabel Huacuja Alonso.
