Columbia Spirit
Maryam is a John W. Kluge Scholar and a senior at Columbia College. She is studying Economics and History and is being recognized for her commitment to leadership, community building and mentorship while at Columbia. Passionate about entrepreneurship and women’s economic empowerment in Sub-Saharan Africa, she has served as the Forums Chair for the African Development Group and a board member of the Columbia Organization of Rising Entrepreneurs. She was also the Chief Marketing Officer for the Columbia Undergraduate Black Pre-Professional Society. Maryam is passionate about pedagogy and served as a Student Consultant for the Center for Teaching and Learning’s Students as Pedagogical Partners Initiative, supporting the implementation of innovative teaching and grading methods at Columbia. She has also served as the Outreach Coordinator for the Columbia College Academic Awards Committee, which selects faculty for respective teaching and book awards. In addition, she has worked as a Tutor through the Double Discovery Center, an especially meaningful opportunity to support high school students in New York. Maryam is also a member of the Seniors for the Columbia College Fund Committee, a reflection of her love for Columbia College and the experiences, education and relationships it has provided her.
