Principled Action
Born and raised in Colombia, Daniel García immigrated to the USA at the age of fifteen. A member of the American Association of Caregiving Youth since high school, Daniel has always had a passion for healthcare and expanding accessibility to health services. A Biomedical Engineering major with a minor in Hispanic Studies, Daniel's experience at Columbia was marked by his compromise to the community. Daniel joined Columbia’s Emergency Medical Services as a freshman, and served as its first immigrant Director during his junior year. Also a member of Sabor, Columbia’s Latinx Dancing Troupe, Daniel has been an active member on campus, committed to the physical and emotional well-being of his peers as well as the greater Morningside Height community. Honoring the memory of his father, Jairo García, who passed in July 2022, Daniel plans to follow in his footsteps and work towards providing healthcare services in underserved communities.
In honor of the lives of my grandmother, Mireya de Guzman and my father, Dr. Jairo Garcia. Let this be an offering to you. This is also thanks to the invaluable dedication of my mother, Angela Guzman, example of sacrifice and principled action throughout her life
