Health and Wellness
Katherinne grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, raised by Peruvian immigrant parents who instilled in her a passion for health and wellness– a passion they bring to any community they enter. Majoring in Cognitive Science, Katherinne specializes in psychology and focuses on how social networks affect cognitive function. Through her lab, she has been able to see the public health impact of research and programs that can be formed to better the community in the Washington Heights area. As Columbia Synapse President, an organization that focuses on bringing awareness of the acquired brain injury (ABI) community, and member since freshman year, Katherinne strives to create a safer environment for the ABI community. As a board member of Latinx Professional and Educational Network and Alianza, Katherinne has demonstrated an aptitude for community building. Through the Manly-Brickman lab, Columbia Synapse, peers, and staff, Katherinne is a believer that well-being is multifaceted and can start at any time.
I am honored to be recognized by my peers, mentors, and Columbia through the Leadership and Excellence award in Health and Wellness! I'd like to thank my parents, family in Peru, suite+, and mentors both academic and extracurricular for believing in me, supporting me, and giving me opportunities to grow and learn.
