Van Am Prize
Alex Seo was born in South Korea and moved to the Dominican Republic at 6 months old, where he lived for 10 years. In the summer of 2010, he moved to Greensboro, NC, where he attended middle and high school. Now at Columbia, he is studying Computer Science. His experiences, while they entail different aspects of his professional and personal life, are centered around one goal: people. Through his volunteer work, work in admissions, and undergraduate research, he continually strives to find roles in which he can foster relationships with individuals and learn about their life stories. Alex is also a board member of the Korean Students Association, where he plans and organizes different events that spread Korean culture, and is a Soonjang in Columbia’s SOON Movement, a Christian organization on campus, where he mentors others in their faith.
I am very grateful and honored to receive the King's Crown Leadership and Excellence Award for Community Building as well as the Van Am Prize. Thank you to the friends who nominated me and to all the people that I have met on this incredible journey so far!
