Senior Marshal
Yilun Hua is being recognized for his contributions to STEM education and his service to the Columbia student body. As a computer science enthusiast, Yilun created tutorials that aided students with diverse coding backgrounds to understand AI topics. As a teaching assistant for the NLP class, he provided intuitive explanations and solid derivations to help students grasp difficult algorithms. Yilun also mentored Columbia students interested in AI and assisted non-Columbia undergraduates with NLP research through the Amazon-Columbia SURE diversity program. Outside of the STEM disciplines, Yilun served as the president of the Activities Board at Columbia, where he introduced changes that facilitated virtual activities during the pandemic, expedited the process for budget application and review, and supported emerging student groups with multiple policies. Yilun's dedication to community service was also exemplified as a residential adviser in Carman Hall, where he provided outstanding service and community-building programs.
