Indelible Mark
Hannah Jimenez is a Junior in Columbia College studying Archeology and Evolutionary Biology of the Human Species. Hannah is a proud member of the Cherokee Nation Tribe of Oklahoma, and was born and raised in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Hannah is being recognized for her work, advocacy, and indelible mark she has left on Columbia's Native American Community. Hannah is very passionate about her involvement in Columbia's Native American Council, and has served in leadership roles such as Community Chair, Powwow Chair and IVY Native Council Representative. She has served as both the chair and a mentor of the Indigenous Family Tree for the Columbia Mentoring Initiative. Additionally, Hannah was one of four Indigenous women at Columbia to spearhead the application for Columbia's first and only all-Native residential brownstone. The application was a success, and since, Hannah has served as the Community Coordinator of Indigehouse on campus. Hannah hopes that her mark left on the community is one of love, authenticity, and resiliency against all odds.
I would like to thank my mom and nana for the indelible mark they have left on my life. I try my best to mirror their strength, authenticity, resiliency and love. I would like to thank my entire family for supporting my endeavors at Columbia, but most importantly I would like to thank God for his never-ending grace, mercy, and love- and for the opportunity to share it with everyone on campus.
