Elliot Blake takes a fundamentally interdisciplinary approach to all of her projects. As a student of Philosophy and Psychology, her research focuses on making premises from ancient philosophy–specifically ethics and epistemology– relevant to addressing contemporary social challenges, particularly with respect to implicit bias. She was selected as a Finalist for the 2023 Rhodes Scholarship and is a Rose Research Ambassador. Furthermore, she was appointed to serve as the only undergraduate representative on the Presidential Advisory Committee on Sexual Assault and the only undergraduate member on the Columbia Alumni Association Board. These accomplishments follow a four-year involvement on the Columbia University Senate where she started as a Legislative Aide and after her election became the Chair of the Student Affairs Committee’s largest subcommittee, Health and Wellness, as well as the Co-Chair of the Senate Financial Insecurity Subcommittee. She currently serves as a member of the Commission on the Status of Women.
I am incredibly honored and grateful to be recognized in this manner by my peers and mentors. My accomplishments would have been unachievable without Julie Crawford and Katja Vogt. Thank you both for always believing in my abilities, endlessly supporting my endeavors, and providing me the guidance to succeed. To my mother: none of this would be possible without you– the most influential person in my life and my model for kindness, generosity, and perseverance.
