Katy Haden is a senior at Columbia studying Political Science and Creative Writing. She is being recognized for her commitment to creating inclusion and community. She has greatly enjoyed her leadership roles on campus, serving as the president of Columbia’s International Relations Council and Association and the co-chair of the Multicultural Recruitment Committee. Furthermore, as a COÖP leader she has loved having the opportunity to welcome in first-year students! Through writing at Columbia she has found community and enjoyed lifting the voices of others. As a fiction editor for the That Which Remains journal she compiled and edited justice-oriented stories for the publication. With the Columbia Justice In Education Initiative she has had the opportunity to assist with teaching creative writing classes on Rikers Island. She has also greatly enjoyed creating laughs and community through satire as one of the writers of the 129th Varsity Show.
