Matthew is being recognized for his community-building contributions to Columbia Outdoor Orientation Program (COÖP) and Latenite Theatre. As a trip leader for COÖP, Matthew led biking trips that provided new students with a rewarding and welcoming experience to Columbia. Through his leadership, Matthew built relationships that lasted far beyond the duration of the four-day COÖP excursions: he organized weekly dinners for his students and served as a resource for those who sought out advice throughout their college careers. In Columbia's Latenite Theatre group, Matthew served as an actor and, ultimately, a director, contributing to a campus community where people can express themselves creatively without fear of judgment. In his time at Columbia, Matthew brought a spirit of enthusiasm and inclusivity to all of his academic and extracurricular involvements.
