Civic Responsibility
Andrew is a Junior in Columbia College studying History with a concentration in the History and Theory of Architecture. As a member of the West 111th Street Block Association, he organizes quarterly community events and monthly neighborhood clean-ups to help make Morningside Heights more clean, safe, and livable. As an organizer with the Morningside Heights Community Coalition, Andrew coordinates with real estate developers, local institutions, and elected officials to advocate for the construction of affordable housing and to rezone Morningside Heights to preserve is socioeconomic diversity. Last summer, Andrew spearheaded COVID-19 small business recovery in Morningside Heights, organizing the neighborhood's first small business association, Morningside Merchants, and coordinating material support and educational workshops for small business owners. Andrew also works as a research associate at Teachers College, where he writes a newsletter tracking developments in education policy and privatization. At Columbia, Andrew writes curriculum and gives tours for Meet Me at the Museum, a club which seeks to increase accessibility to New York's cultural institutions by giving free tours to public school students from all five boroughs. This summer, Andrew will be interning at the Metropolitan Opera, working with their first Chief Diversity Officer to address systemic issues of inequity and develop a first-of-its-kind diversity, equity, and inclusion program.
