Innovation and Enhancement
Daiki Tagami entered Columbia College as an I.I. Rabi Scholar, and majored in Mathematics-Statistics. He initially worked on a neural stem cell differentiation research project under the Laidlaw Scholars program in Columbia University's Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute. Afterwards, he worked on machine learning research projects to analyze single cell RNA-seq data, 3D images of neurons and historical artifacts. He also worked on a theoretical research project through the Statistics Department's Summer Internship Program. In addition to research activities, he served as a teaching assistant for a total of 8 courses in the Department of Statistics and Mathematics, ranging from multivariable calculus, linear algebra and Python programming language. He is currently in the MA program in statistics through the BA/MA program and is volunteering as a student representative. He plans to pursue a PhD degree in Statistics at the University of Oxford through the support from Kellett fellowship program.
It is a great honor to receive this award, and thank you very much for selecting me. I would like to express my gratitude towards everyone who have supported me throughout my 4 years at Columbia University, including professors, administrators, friends and family members. I was extremely lucky to have been able to be part of the Columbia community, and I will never forget my appreciation towards everyone's kind support.
