Senior Marshal
Adam is a Buffalo native and a senior at Columbia University studying History and Political Science, with specializations in the politics of queerness and the criminalization of marginalized groups. His research focuses primarily on the intersections of mass incarceration, LGBTQ performance, and the death penalty, leading to his exploration of these themes in the United States, the Greater Caribbean, and the Chechen Republic. As a Research Assistant with the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia, Adam found himself drawn to the relationship between patterns of incarceration and a lack of access to adequate healthcare in penal institutions, developing policy solutions to address COVID-19 in American prisons. His senior thesis studies the relationship between coming out processes and queer-focused violence in the civil rights movement, building on research he conducts as a Presidential Fellow with the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (CSPC). He is also a Youth Ambassador with Advocates for Youth, which seeks to support the impact of HIV and AIDS on young people. On campus, Adam is currently the Gender & Sexuality Representative for the Columbia College Student Council, a member of Columbia SHARP A Cappella and The 128th Annual Varsity Show, a Student Advisory Board Member with the Eric H. Holder Initiative for Civil & Political Rights, and a Mentorship Intern with Undergraduate Admissions. Adam plans to pursue an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Oxford this fall, as a Euretta J. Kellett Fellow from Columbia.
I am profoundly humbled to be recognized with this honor, and offer my deepest gratitude to my family and friends for their support.
