Yilun Hua is being recognized for his reforms on student groups' spending guidelines and his support to emerging student groups. As the president of the Activities Board at Columbia, he led the development of new policies that facilitated groups' virtual activities during the pandemic and encouraged groups' expansion in the transition to in-person programming. He established an expedited process for groups' allocation application, whose mechanisms further assisted groups' financial compliance. His key role in the expansion of the Community Programming Fund supported the emerging student groups and the inclusivity of group activities. Under his leadership, the Activities Board at Columbia recognized 9 new student groups in Fall 2021 and extensively supported first-generation and low-income students' participation in student activities.
