Kimia Heydari bridges gaps on campus. Since 2019, as one of the youngest Peer Fellows hired at the Writing Center, she facilitates a collaborative learning environment by encouraging students to reflect on their writing processes. As appointed research liaison, she directs joint workshops between the Writing Center and Columbia’s libraries. Alongside Columbia University Emergency Medical Services, her patient care makes healthcare resources more accessible to the Morningside community. Lastly, in co-creating the seminar, Rhetoric of Science, she directs students to explain social underpinnings of science. Her eagerness to synchronize disparate fields and facilitate collaboration among students resonates with Columbia’s sustenance of diversity and unity.
I thank my family as well as my friends at both the Writing Center and CUEMS. I’m eternally indebted to Dr. Bob Pollack for helping me turn ideas to projects, and to Dr. Sue Mendelsohn and Jason Ueda for showing me ways to be a better reader, writer, and person.
