Community Building
Edna Egal is a senior in Columbia College studying computer science. She is from Baltimore, MD by way of Mogadishu, Somalia and is involved in several student organizations. She is a co-founder and Community Outreach Chair for the Somali Students Association, co-chair of the Interfaith Collective, and Multifaith Fellow at the Office of Religious Life. She also served as a teaching assistant in the computer science department and a First-in-Family Peer Mentor. She is passionate about helping first-generation students in their Columbia journeys and is always looking for ways to "pay it forward". Through her empathetic leadership, she has worked to make several academic and extracurricular spaces comfortable for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
I am very honored and grateful to receive this award. I'd like to thank my amazing friends and family who have supported me during my time at Columbia. Thank you for making these past four years so memorable!
