Afsana has been selected to receive several Leadership and Excellence awards. On campus, Afsana is involved in efforts to promote health equity, community, and inclusion. As the Co-President of Globemed, she works directly with a health-care based non-profit in Uganda that provides free reproductive services, HIV/AIDS treatment and testing, economic empowerment, and psychosocial support for a postwar community. She has led a Globemed mentor initiative that provides support for first generation, low-income students in navigating their college experience. She is also the Health Education Chair for Planned Parenthood, aiming to provide reproductive services on campus and to raise awareness for reproductive rights. Afsana is also a part of the Emergency Food Program with Community Impact where she helps to distribute free lunches at the Soup Kitchen and free groceries at the Food Pantry. Overall, she serves as a leader, a mentor, an advocate, and a volunteer for her community.
I would like to first congratulate all of the other recipients! I also want to thank my friends, family, peers, and faculty for all of their help in consistently providing me with support in my endeavors. To everyone in Globemed, Planned Parenthood, Community Impact, and in my courses, thank you for constantly encouraging me and for helping me grow in a supportive environment that aims to serve the community.
