Amir Idris

Award Recognition

Community Building
Amir Idris is being recognized for his work as a student coordinator of the Global Ambassador Program, which aims to foster intercultural dialogue among members of the diverse student body. With his 'all-in' attitude and infectious enthusiasm, his ability to turn a group of strangers into a tight-knit community in this virtual world has impressed not only his friends and peers, but the staff of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. In an effort to provide first-year students some semblance of campus life, he created an interactive, digital 'choose-your-own' adventure game that students have begun playing this semester. Amir's commitment to sustaining remote engagement has been an invaluable source of community-building in the time of the pandemic.
I am humbled to accept this award, and I accept on behalf of not only myself, but my entire team at GAP, my friends, and my family. I would not have done the work I did without their help and ongoing support, especially during my senior year. As I leave Columbia, I hope that I was able to brighten the experiences of others during my time here.
