Civic Responsibility
In the past year, Hana has demonstrated a commitment to civic responsibility through her work in the Columbia COVID-19 Student Service Corps (CSSC). As one of the first undergraduates to join, Hana became a co-leader of the Translations team, managing over 150 volunteers who translate medical and informational documents for communities in the NY-Presbyterian area and beyond. Within CSSC, Hana has helped manage over 100 projects that represent 30 languages. She also volunteers with the Friendly Calls to Seniors project, communicating remotely with vulnerable populations with underlying mental health conditions to provide emotional support. Hana also helped with the creation of a Youtube channel where individuals, including herself, upload videos reading stories and poems to serve as companions for hospice patients in isolation. Finally, Hana is a volunteer medical interpreter and a tutor at the Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA).
I am incredibly humbled and grateful to receive this award dedicated to something very dear to me. Thank you to everyone I've worked and volunteered alongside with who I crossed paths with because we both believed in something small called giving back.
