Award Recognition

Senior Marshal
Joon Baek has been involved with the Columbia College Student Council as the International Student Representative and later, the Student Body President. He has been an advocate and leader for his international student peers on and off the Columbia campus. With new rules forbidding international students from entering the US in the shift to virtual classes, he led an initiative to protest against the rule, eventually being selected by the New York State Attorney General to speak at a press conference as an international student leader. Through his positions and involvement on campus, he has dedicated his time to advocate for a more inclusive and supportive environment for international students.
Hello, my name is Joon Baek. Just want to say that I am honored to be a senior marshal. It has been a strange and difficult year as a senior, and I want to thank my friends who really believed in me and nominated me for this award. I wonder how we will look back to this graduation years later - no matter what, it's amazing that we all graduated. It is sad not see y'all in person, but I believe one day we will meet again. Folks, be safe, and happy graduation! We did it!
