Award Recognition

Senior Marshal
Whether it is representing her classmates, excelling in the classroom, volunteering her time, or simply being a friendly and thoughtful person, Adheli Gonzalez best exemplifies the consummate mechanical engineer. From being the student representative on the mechanical engineering undergraduate committee, to the vice president of communications and head of the peer mentorship program in the Engineering Student Council, Adheli always puts helping others first. Her research on underwater snake robots, work on computer graphics at McMaster-Carr, and her efforts to improve the steam distribution system in NYC show that her scholarship knows no bounds. As a first-generation Latina student, Adheli has received numerous honors that emphasize her strong character. She was a finalist in the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) Scholar of the Year award, served as an HSF STEM Summit Mentor, and was a Forbes Under 30 Scholar.
As my four years at Columbia come to an end, I am nothing but grateful for the amazing friendships and experiences that I have shared with my fellow Columbia community. Thank you to all my friends, classmates, faculty, and staff for becoming my second family and making Columbia my second home. Thank you to my parents and brother, who though were miles away as I completed my degree, continued to support me, love me, and care for me as they always have. Though I know I will never be able to repay them for everything they have ever done for me, my degree, diploma, and awards are my gifts to them. Thank you to all those who made these last four years special and memorable. I am beyond blessed to call myself a Lion and celebrate my graduation with my lovely Class of 2021! Roar lion roar!
