Alexander Jermann exemplifies the SEAS slogan 'Engineering for humanity' through his involvement with the Data Science Institute and the Right CoLab, where he works on data-driven investigations into corporate human rights abuses. Not only is Alexander creating immense social impact on a global scale, he also plays a vital role in encouraging younger members he works with. For these reasons Alexander displays Civic Responsibility in spades.
I am grateful to Columbia's Data Science Institute for promoting initiatives such as the Data for Good program. Our project has opened my eyes to the ways that my Columbia Engineering education can create positive social change on campus, and beyond. Thank you to Joanne Bauer and Paul Rissman for letting me participate in such important work, Vincent Dorie for the much-needed pointers, the Addition Team for countless hours, and my family, for unwavering support.
