Bio

Yasmine is a neuroscience and philosophy major from Luxembourg who has been actively involved in increasing equity, inclusion and diversity in scientific research. As president of the Columbia Neuroscience Society as well as a member of the Diversity Equity Inclusion and Accessibility Board of Zuckerman Institute, she has sought to provide students from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM the opportunity to grow and thrive as scientists. She was also one of the Columbia representatives for the UN IVY STEM Connect Program where she led workshops and scientific research projects with students in Tanzania and Rwanda. As she continues her graduate research work in the neuroscientific and genetic basis of stress and trauma, she wishes to continue fostering and fighting for socially just communities in STEM. She is very grateful to the mentors, professors and fellow classmates that have inspired and helped her realize her dreams at Columbia.
