Buchner Through The Years on Saturday Night At The Opera

Saturday, July 25, 2015 - 9:00pm to Sunday, July 26, 2015 - 1:00am

Operagoers who know Georg Büchner's name will probably know him solely for his play Woyzeck, the source material for Alban Berg's Wozzeck; however, many of the German writer's compositions have inspired extraordinary operatic works. Tune in to Saturday Night at the Opera on Saturday July 25th to hear two vastly different adaptations of Büchner's operas. The program begins with the prolific Wolfgang Rihm's Jakob Lenz, Büchner's unfinished account of playwright Jakob Lenz's descent into madness. It is paired with Gottfried von Einem's celebrated Dantons Tod, which explores the final days of the French revolutionary. Stepan Atamian hosts.
