I aired a Horse Lords live set and brief guest DJ set recorded at WKCR. Horse Lords is the Baltimore-based quartet of Andrew Bernstein, Max Eilbacher, Owen Gardner, and Sam Haberman. They were in town playing two New York shows at the start of their Spring 2012 Horse Tour. Described as "Baltimore's psych-rock alternative jam experimental pop band of the future," Horse Lords freely moves between genres and styles, with their guitar, bass, sax, and percussion-driven pieces. At WKCR, the group played, both live and then recorded, material featured on their new excellent cassette.
The Friday Afternoon Classical program this week features features a special playing of Van Cliburn's historic 1958 performance of Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto–recorded just three weeks after his return from Moscow, at Carnegie Hall in New York.
