Late Valentine's day treat- today we'll hear music composers wrote for their wives. (The exception is the Janacek, which is written for a married woman many years younger than he, with whom he had extensive correspondence.)
The recordings of Paul Ben-Haim's "Psalm" and Maurice Ravel's "La Valse" were both from an April 1990 live recording from Tel Aviv, Israel, featuring the Berlin Philharmonic side-by-side on stage with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Zubin Mehta. This coincided with the conclusion of the Berlin Philharmonic's historic tour of Israel.
