We celebrated his birthday by playing his beautiful Saint Cecilia Mass and his Symphony Number 1 in D. Today, June 18th, was Estonian composer and conductor Eduard Tubin's birthday. Tubin was born on June 18th 1905 and he would have been 110 years old today. We celebrated Tubin's birth by listening to his Symphony Number 2, 4, and 6. Happy Birthday Charles Gounod and Eduard Tubin!

This Afternoon Classical program was dedicated exclusively to the renowned German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, in celebration of his birthday. Born on May 28, 1925 in Berlin, Germany, the late Fischer-Dieskau would have turned 90 on this day. An incredibly talented, versatile performer, Fischer-Dieskau brought his clear and iconic sound to a wide range of operas, lieder, oratorios, song cycles, and more in a myriad of languages and styles. We listened to some of his greatest recordings many of which Fischer-Dieskau is best remembered for.
