Que(e)ery Collective

The que(e)ry Collective published Columbia University's first undergraduate journal of queer and feminist theory in the Fall semester of 2018. This groundbreaking project culminated in a publication launch event on Saturday, December 15th, 2018. This was significant for two reasons. First, it provided the opportunity for undergraduate students engaged in projects and writings related to queer identity and feminist activism to showcase their academic work. Second, the que(e)ry Collectives launch provided a resource for queer and transgender students and members of our community to engage their lived-experience in a quasi-academic space. These two accomplishments will constitute our primary mission: to provide undergraduate students engaged in projects and writings related to queer identity and feminist activism the opportunity to showcase their work; and to provide a space and resource for queer, transgender, and other members of our community to engage their lived-experience in a quasi-academic space. In order to pursue it, we will release a new issue of our queer and feminist theory journal each semester; host weekly informal theoretical discussion-based workshops related to the field; and organize each semester several larger events for the general community which may include scholarly panels, student-run debates, literary readings, and more. Our priority for these events will be the promotion and inclusion of students and faculty specific to Columbia and Barnard. All things considered, the constitution of our group is critically identity-based and activist in purpose, since we aim to not only explore queer theory, but also confront how the lives of queer people, especially those in our collective, are implicated, erased, and exposed in both academic subject matter and everyday life.
