LionHealth

The mission of LionHealth is to empower Columbia University undergraduates to design and develop innovative medical technologies that address unmet healthcare needs in underserved communities. Through interdisciplinary collaboration across biomedical, mechanical, electrical, chemical, and software engineering, LionHealth provides students with hands-on experience translating engineering ideas into real-world healthcare solutions while encouraging thoughtful engagement with the ethical, clinical, and societal dimensions of medical technology.

LionHealth operates through multidisciplinary project teams that work collaboratively across hardware engineering, software development, clinical research, and product strategy. Hardware teams focus on device prototyping, fabrication, and testing; software teams develop mobile applications, embedded systems, data processing tools, and user interfaces; clinical teams conduct needs assessments and collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure projects align with patient and provider workflows; and business and strategy teams support project sustainability through funding, partnerships, event planning, career workshopping, and implementation planning. In addition, science communications and outreach initiatives help translate technical progress into accessible information for partners, sponsors, and the broader community through Mane Frame, LionHealth’s undergraduate medical technology journal.

By integrating engineering design, clinical insight, and organizational strategy, LionHealth aims to cultivate a new generation of engineers who are not only technically skilled, but also deeply committed to improving patient outcomes and expanding access to healthcare innovation.
