At FL@GS (First Generation and/or Low-Income at GS), our mission is to empower first-generation and low-income students at the Columbia University School of General Studies by creating a supportive and inclusive community. We are dedicated to:
- Building community by fostering a safe space where members can share experiences, challenges, and triumphs unique to first-generation and low-income backgrounds.
- Empowerment through education and mentorship, by providing resources, programming, and mentorship opportunities that better academic, professional, and personal development.
- Advocacy and leadership by amplifying the voices of our community by engaging in university-wide dialogue and advocacy to promote equity and inclusion.
- Celebrating diversity by recognizing and celebrating the unique perspectives and strengths that first-generation and low-income students bring to our campus community.
These are our pillars through which FL@GS strives to transform challenges into opportunities and ensure that every member feels valued, heard, and supported.
