At FL@GS (First Generation and/or Low-Income at GS), our mission is to empower first-generation and low-income students at the Columbia University School of General Studies by creating a supportive and inclusive community. We are dedicated to:

• Building community by fostering a safe space where members can share experiences, challenges, and triumphs unique to first-generation and low-income backgrounds.
• Empowerment through education and mentorship, by providing resources, programming, and mentorship opportunities that better academic, professional, and personal development.
• Advocacy and leadership by amplifying the voices of our community by engaging in university-wide dialogue and advocacy to promote equity and inclusion.
• Celebrating diversity by recognizing and celebrating the unique perspectives and strengths that first-generation and low-income students bring to our campus community.
