Russell Ashford is a national security policy advisor and retired intelligence officer with over thirty years of experience in analyzing a variety of military, geopolitical, and intelligence issues. Having served as the Navy’s Senior Intelligence Officer on China, Russell has focused much of his career on supporting Department of Defense planning and operations in East Asia and the Persian Gulf, including Operation Praying Mantis and Operation Earnest Will during the Iran-Iraq War. In recent years, he has worked on counterterrorist and counterintelligence challenges for the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and other government agencies.

Russell is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce, and Rhodes College, as well as the Defense Language Institute.
