Welcome to “The Block” residential area of Columbia University! The Block consists of the residence halls on 113th Street and 114th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. The five residence halls and four brownstones that comprise The Block are Broadway, Hogan, McBain, Ruggles, Watt, 548 West 113th St., 536 West 114th St., 542 West 114th St., and 546 West 114th St. Tara Hanna serves as the Associate Director for The Block and her office is located in Broadway Hall, Suite 103. There are over 1300 upper-class students living in our area and all of the residents comprise an extremely diverse community. To highlight some, there are Special Interest Community members (Q House, and Students for Substance Free Space), Sorority and Fraternity students, as well as Transfer and 3/2 students, religious and cultural groups, and athletics team members, just to name a few.
There are 28 Resident Advisers, 3 Community Advisers, 3 Graduate Hall Directors, and 1 Associate Director, and hardworking Facilities staff who are all here to support and engage residents in their living environment. As you can see, the Block Area is staffed with a wide-array of staff and resources for students.
