ALPHA Standards of Excellence
The purpose of the 5-Star ALPHA Standards of Excellence Program is to enhance the values, beliefs and practices of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Columbia University and recognize the accomplishments of outstanding chapters. By encouraging academic success, leadership development, philanthropy, community service and chapter management, the Office of Residential Programs seeks to reward chapters who exemplify excellence and continuously work towards making a positive impact on campus and the surrounding community while fulfilling the mission and vision of their respective organizations.
Fraternities and Sororities have the ability to earn three to five stars, with a minimum of three stars required to receive Full Recognition. Chapters who receive five stars will receive the ALPHA status.
All chapters submit their ALPHA standards documentation in December to reflect achievements from the current calendar year in the following categories: Academics, Leadership Development & New Member Education, Philanthropy & Community Service, Housing & Chapter Management, Activities & Alumni. Panels of administrators and students (both Greek and non-affiliated) review submissions in January and recommend ALPHA scores for each recognized Greek organization.
Apply below to serve on an ALPHA standards review panel. Applications must be submitted by midnight Friday December 16. Only non-affiliated students are eligible for open seats on the review panels.
Reviewers should be available to participate in an orientation and training session on Thursday January 12 or Friday January 13, 2012. Times will be determined based on participants' availability.
