A native of St. Louis, MO, Pete graduated from Saint Louis University with a BA in journalism in 1999. He then hit the road stopping in New Orleans, Denver, Northern and Southern California, Oregon, Salt Lake City, Maine, and Chicago, working in the fields of social justice, political activism, community organizing, and education before he began his career as a higher education professional at Washington University in St. Louis. He came to Columbia in 2007 and now calls the Upper Westside home. He’s currently pursuing a Master’s degree in leadership development from Columbia’s Teachers College. Pete oversees the Alternative Break Program and works with Columbia’s Center for Career Education to oversee the Kenneth Cole Community Engagement Program. He is currently interested in theories on critically thinking about civic engagement and alternatives to oppositional activism. Pete is a huge sports fan, especially baseball and especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
