Description

"Volunteering at Memorial Sloan Kettering is a distinct and richly rewarding experience. The Department of Volunteer Resources coordinates the participation of thousands of men, women, and young people as volunteers at MSK. Your role as a volunteer is to provide more than just your time and energy — it’s also to offer support, courage, solace, and joy to our patients, their loved ones, and our staff, in your own unique way.

Volunteers do many things at MSK.You may help patients navigate the hospital or support our nursing staff by providing patients with resources to feel comfortable during their time on-site.

  • Patient Escort: Respond to requests for escorts and provide comfort to patients as needed.
  • Admission Center Volunteer: Provide information and assistance to patients and their families and to the Center staff. Provide companionship to patients and assist in preparing paperwork for admitting patients.
  • Disease Management Team Volunteer: Provide assistance to staff and inpatients on one or more inpatient units. Perform clerical or non-clinical tasks on the unit as directed by staff. Assist with the patent discharge process by escorting patients to building exits or garage.

Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and contribute their special talents and energy for many different reasons. Some are high school students fulfilling service requirements. Others are adults wishing to give back to the community. Each is committed to providing a welcoming and caring environment for patients, families, and visitors.

Volunteers work a minimum of one (1) three hour shift per week. This shift will repeat every week. Volunteers are expected to be reliable in attending their shifts as they are an integral part of enhancing the patient and caregiver experience at MSK. Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of six months when volunteering. Adults generally stay for least one year of service, and most work with us for about two years. Students may volunteer for a semester or a summer. Students must be at least 16 years old to volunteer."
