ArchCare at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center (TCC) is actively looking for dedicated, mature, and motivated Columbia University students from all fields of study to serve one of New York City’s elderly and infirm populations most in need. This is a hands-on opportunity for students not only to serve one of the most ethnically diverse, vulnerable and socially marginalized populations in New York City but also to study transitions of patient care from the hospital back to the patient’s community.
Volunteers perform a variety of tasks assisting TCC staff as well as family members and loved ones, participating in unit and facility-wide recreational therapy events, and visiting weekly with an individual patient or resident as a long-term companion.
Volunteers will play an invaluable and meaningful role in our patients’ lives while gaining exposure to today’s healthcare issues surrounding transitions of care, including sub-acute and long-term medical care.
Volunteers are asked to commit to working a minimum of four hours per week for the duration of the semester.
