2017 Yearbook Committee Application

The 2017 Columbian Yearbook is looking to fill the committee positions listed below.

Editor-In-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the day-to-day programming details of the program. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Meet with Advisor on a bi weekly basis
  • Coordinate bi monthly meeting with Yearbook committee
  • Meet with representatives from Jostens Publishing as needed
  • Meet with representatives from Lifetouch Photography as needed
  • Work with adviser to book space, select the staff, and help assign roles best suited to staffers’ skills
  • Manage or delegate all aspects of theme/concept work, including selection, development, design and production of cover, endsheets, title page, opening, dividers, closing and other related details
  • Responsible for the yearbook email account; a timely email response and proper email etiquette is expected
  • Create ladder for committee members to create sections
  • Help organize senior portraits; ensure student group leaders are aware of submission deadlines, and are promoting senior portraits dates and yearbook sales
  • Reach out to campus partners to obtain material to include in yearbook
  • Advertise yearbook to senior classes to increase sales
  • Follow-through with the completion of the yearbook in the summer
  • Lead by example as a communicative, prompt, responsible, responsive, effective staffer whose concern is for the staff as a whole
  • Complete the final check of all pages prior to submission and works with the adviser to ensure timely, correct submission of all deadlines to the plant
  • Assist with new content ideas and development and follow-through with the completion of the yearbook in the summer

Business Manager

  • Attend a bi monthly meeting in Lerner 505, (meeting will be based on the availability amongst the whole committee)
  • Expect to work at least 3-5 hours a week
  • Develop budget and handle all finances including: sales and revenue, worker compensation, and advertisement
  • Create marketing/sales ideas and ploys
  • Assist with new content ideas and development
  • Help Staff Writer with Dean’s office for congratulatory letters
  • Contact campus partners/departments for Ad’s features
  • Ensure Department payment processing

Design Assistant

  • Attend a bi monthly meeting in Lerner 505, (meeting will be based on the availability amongst the whole committee)
  • Expect to work at least 3-5 hours a week
  • Work with editor to create layouts and designs for the book
  • Help oversee the production of the pages i.e. picture placement, text, captions, headings, and artistic features
  • Inputs spreads into computer via Yearbook Avenue
  • Assist with new content ideas and developments

Photographer/Content Gatherer

  • Attend a bi monthly meeting in Lerner 505, (meeting will be based on the availability amongst the whole committee)
  • Expect to work at least 3-5 hours a week
  • Work with the Editor to ensure every assigned/major event is photographed
  • Responsible for contacting student group leaders for Student Life pictures and member names
  • Gather and select photos, interviews, and event descriptions for all campus events (for example: Glass House Rocks, Lunar Gala, or Tree Lighting Ceremony)
  • Ensure that everyone has been photographed but no one has been photographed too much
  • Coordinate the image management system so it’s easy to locate the photo files/negatives when needed
  • Assist with new content ideas and development

Staff Writer

  • Attend a bi monthly meeting in Lerner 505, (meeting will be based on the availability amongst the whole committee)
  • Expect to work at least 3-5 hours a week
  • Contact student group leaders to ensure that their club photo, club description, and senior roster has been submitted
  • Check spelling and grammar of every name on each completed page
  • Assist with yearbook articles and/or passages
  • Work in conjunction with the Business Manager to collect the Dean’s Letters’
  • Work with the Business Manager to create advertisements and marketing
  • Assist with new content ideas and development
