10:30 a.m.*–12:00 p.m.
*The degree candidate procession begins at 9:30 a.m. Gates and seating will open to ticket holders at 8:30 a.m.
Commencement is the University-wide event celebrating graduates of all Columbia schools and its affiliates. The ceremony begins with the academic procession and includes the awarding of honorary degrees, the President's address to graduates, and the conferring of degrees en masse by school.
University Commencement is restricted to ticketed guests. Entry gates for general admission are on West 114th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. Guests with disabilities should utilize the accessible gates on Amsterdam Avenue (at both 115th Street and 116th Street). General admission tickets may be used to enter disability seating areas. Tickets are not required for graduating students, however graduates must be in regalia to particpate in the ceremony.
Seating is limited (tickets are required), and each student may request tickets when registering online to attend. Seats are not assigned and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating areas are not tented, and we encourage guests to check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Commencement will take place outdoors, rain or shine, but there is an indoor viewing location in the Levien Gymnasium of the Dodge Fitness Center that can be accessed with general admission tickets.
The night of University Commencement, beginning at dusk, the spire of the Empire State Building will be blue and white in honor of Columbia’s graduates!
