I think that being within such an incredible, inspiring community like Columbia is both a blessing and a curse. I found myself junior year stressing out a lot about summer internships and future careers, seeing my friends moving swiftly towards their dreams and goals. I guess what I would like to share most are the things I wish I would have known while going through that process:

Studying abroad at the Berlin Consortium for German Studies (BCGS) offers an incredible opportunity to master German language skills by engaging in intensive academic coursework while integrating into German culture. Students enroll at the Freie Universität Berlin, which hosts a variety of departments including Biology, Economics, Political Science and much more. Students may also consider taking select courses at other universities in Berlin such as the Humboldt.

The MENA program focuses on the languages, history and culture of the Maghreb region and its relations with the Middle East and Europe. Linking disciplines, the program gives students the opportunity to develop the linguistic skills and background knowledge necessary to conduct cross-regional projects and interrogate geo-cultural boundaries. Based in both Amman (June) and Paris (July), students on the program take the equivalent of one year of a Modern Standard Arabic language course (1st through 4th year offered).

Based in the capital city of Amman at the Columbia Global Center, this program provides intensive Arabic language training and introduces Jordanian and Arab culture and customs to highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students. Students enroll in a Modern Standard Arabic course at the appropriate level (1st through 4th year offered) and meet regularly with language tutors. Jordanian/Levantine Arabic is integrated in a daily conversation hour.
